Lives and works on Gubbi Gubbi Country, Sunshine Coast, Australia
Kate Mitchell is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans video, photography, print, text, and objects. Her practice dwells at the crossroads of the conceptual and the numinous, exploring themes related to work and the spiritual. With a wry sense of humour, Mitchell brings together seemingly disparate topics and mediums, resulting in works that reflect who we are, how we exist, and what we value as a society.
Two guiding principles anchor Mitchell’s practice: the recognition that everything is interconnected and the ethos of working from where you are with what you’ve got.
Her work is included in leading public and private collections across Australia including: Kadist Foundation, Paris and San Francisco; Michael Buxton Collection, Melbourne; Artbank, Sydney and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney. Mitchell was a Carriageworks Clothing Store Artist in Residence 2019-2020 and is currently a Cementa 24 artist.
The artist is represented by Chalk Horse Gallery, Sydney.
